So let me start by saying that I absolutely adore Rainbow. I had read Fangirl before this and loved it. Which is what made me pick up Carry On.
The World of Mages is similar to that of Harry Potter, but the character dynamics are a bit different.
It starts in their (Simon, Baz and the gang) 8th year at Watford. Simon is the chosen one and Baz is his arch nemesis when the book begins.
Overall, I think my favorite character was Baz, because of his tough guy attitude and his vulnerable heart.
I would definitely recommend reading Fangirl first, but it's not essential because there are no references between the two.
In my opinion this is a must read!
